Contents Protection Coverage Overview
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need coverage?
Homeowner’s insurance doesn’t always cover your belongings during a move. And even if it does, our Contents Protection Option may still be a good move. For instance, if you file a claim through our coverage plan, your homeowner’s insurance rates likely won’t be impacted. Also, our plan’s deductible will probably cost you less out of pocket (only $100) compared to your homeowners insurance deductible, which could be $1,000 or more. But the greatest benefit of our Contents Protection Option is peace of mind, so you can focus on other important aspects of your move.
How are items valued?
Damaged items will be replaced based on their depreciated value, which is the replacement cost minus any depreciation (loss of value over time due to factors such as age, wear and tear, and obsolescence).
Which types of losses are covered?
Our Contents Protection Option covers your contents against accidents, burglary (while in PODS’ care), and vandalism while being stored in PODS containers on your property, at our Storage Centers, or during transit.
Which types of property are not covered?
The Contents Protection Option does not cover items stored in the container that are prohibited by our Rental Agreement. These items include money, jewelry, furs, firearms, computer software or programs, credit cards, and certain other invaluable and irreplaceable items.
Which types of events are not covered?
Damage to contents stored in the container caused by improper packing, normal shifting, or willful or intentional acts is not covered by the Contents Protection Option. By using proper packing and loading techniques, damage caused by normal container handling and road vibration can be significantly reduced. How do I purchase Contents Protection?
Contents Protection can be purchased when you place an order for a PODS container. The amount of coverage you choose should be based the total estimated value of your contents. Coverage applies to all items stored in our containers, whether you have one container or 10. Please note: In select markets and for certain types of moves, $10,000 of Contents Protection Option coverage may be included in your quote. At the time of your order, you have the option to increase or lower the amount of coverage, or to remove it entirely. The Contents Protection Option cannot be added to an order, and the coverage value cannot be increased, after delivery of the first container on your order. The Contents Protection Option can be canceled at any time.
What does the Container Only option cover?
The Container Only Option covers any loss or damage to your PODS container, no matter the cause, including lightning, windstorm, hail, fire, smoke, explosion, vandalism, riot, malicious mischief, falling objects or auto accidents. Damage to the container, however, will not be covered if it was caused by your willful or intentional acts. Under no circumstances will the Container Only Option cover any loss or damage to any property stored in the PODS container.
