Contents Protection

With any move, there is always a chance that items may be damaged. PODS is proud to offer Contents Protection to our customers.

Why Do You Need Contents Protection?

Events that cause damage can occur, and items kept in storage may have little or no coverage under homeowners or renters insurance policies. Additionally, PODS is not responsible for damage to your stored property, so it is important to protect your possessions. Your PODS rental agreement requires you to maintain and show proof of insurance, so we offer our Contents Protection Option to meet this requirement.

When you select the Contents Protection Option, your contents and the container will be covered against specific risks. Whether the container is on your property, in one of our Storage Centers or in transit, your coverage will be effective.

How To Purchase Contents Protection

The Contents Protection Option will be discussed when you place an order for your PODS container. The amount of coverage will be based upon your determination of the value of your contents.

Which Type of Losses are Covered?*

You will no longer be responsible for loss or damage to the container. PODS will assume responsibility for losses to your personal property caused by the following:

  • Fire
  • Lightning
  • Wind
  • Hail
  • Smoke
  • Weight of ice
  • Snow or sleet
  • Falling objects
  • Explosions
  • Riot or civil commotion
  • Vehicles and aircraft
  • Vandalism and malicious mischief
  • Overflow of water
  • Burglary
  • Collapse of the Storage Center
  • Certified acts of terrorism
  • Collision
  • Upset or overturning of the container

Which Types of Property are not covered?*

deliveryPODS will not be responsible for valuable items that should not be put into the container such as: money, jewelry, furs, firearms, computer software or programs, credit cards, and certain other invaluable or irreplaceble items.
Additionally, damage caused by improper packing, normal shifting, or intentional acts by you to the contents or the container are not covered.

How Are Losses Settled

In the event of a loss, report your claim by calling our toll free number: (866) 351-3724. PODS has qualified staff to process the claims for damaged items. The claims must be reported upon discovery of damage and please do not dispose of damaged goods. Among other duties, you will need to create an inventory of lost or damaged goods. Photographs and recordings serve as excellent proof of damage. In the case of theft, you must also file a police report.
