PODS Storage Contents Protection Coverage

During any move there is potential for items to be damaged.  PODS is pleased to offer our customers a Contents Protection Option.

Why Do You Need Contents Protection?

Incidents that cause damage can occur and things kept in storage may have limited or no coverage under homeowners or renters insurance policies.  It is important to protect your belongings.  PODS in not responsible for damage to your stored possessions and your PODS rental agreement requires that you maintain and show proof of insurance.  We offer our customers a Contents Protection Option to fulfill the requirement.

With our Contents Protection Option, your contents as well as the container will be covered against certain risks.  Our coverage is effective whether your PODS® container is stored on your property, in one of our secure Storage Centres or in transit.

How To Purchase Contents Protection

The amount of coverage chosen will be determined by the value of your contents.  Our Contents Protection Option will be discussed when you place an order for your PODS® container.

Which Type of Losses are Covered?*

You will no longer be responsible for loss or damage to the container. PODS will assume responsibility for losses to your personal property caused by the following:

  • Fire
  • Lightning
  • Wind
  • Hail
  • Smoke
  • Weight of ice
  • Snow or sleet
  • Falling objects
  • Explosions
  • Riot or civil commotion
  • Vehicles and aircraft
  • Vandalism and malicious mischief
  • Overflow of water
  • Burglary
  • Collapse of the Storage Center
  • Certified acts of terrorism
  • Collision
  • Upset or overturning of the container

Which Types of Property are not covered?*

deliveryPODS will not be responsible for valuable items that should not be put into the container such as: money, jewellry, furs, firearms, computer software or programs, credit cards, and certain other invaluable or irreplaceable items.
Additionally, damage caused by improper packing, normal shifting, or intentional acts by you to the contents or the container are not covered.

How Are Losses Settled

PODS has qualified staff to process claims for damaged items.  Report your claim by calling our toll free number: (866) 351-3724.  Claims must be reported immediately and damaged items should not be disposed of.  Along with other tasks, you will be required to create an inventory of any lost or damaged items.  Photographs are a great way to illustrate proof of damage.  If your claim involves theft you will need to file a police report.
