PODS Storage Contents Protection Coverage

Why Do You Need Contents Protection?

Events may occur that can cause damage to your items stored in our PODS® container and also damage to the container itself. Your items may have little or no coverage under homeowners or renters insurance policies. Additionally, PODS is not responsible for damage to your stored property and our rental agreement requires you to maintain coverage for your personal property stored in our container, so it is important to find coverage for your possessions. You are also responsible for any damage to the container under our rental agreement. As a solution, we offer our Contents Protection Option.

With our Contents Protection Option, your contents as well as the container will be covered against a variety of risks. Subject to certain exclusions and limitations, PODS’ Contents Protection Option covers certain losses whether your PODS container is stored on your property, in one of our secure Storage Centers or in transit. The Contents Protection Option also satisfies your coverage requirement under our Rental Agreement. Please refer to the Content Protection Option/Duty to Insure Addendum for full coverage details The addendum is provided with your paperwork and is available through your online account or when you accept the Rental Agreement.

How To Purchase Contents Protection

Our Contents Protection Option will be discussed when you place an order for your PODS container through our call center or will be made available to you if you place an order online. The amount of coverage chosen by you should be based on the value of the contents you intend to store in the PODS container.

Which Type of Losses are Covered?*

Contents Protection Option covers certain losses to your personal property stored in a PODS container caused by any of the following:

  • Fire
  • Lightning
  • Wind
  • Hail
  • Smoke
  • Weight of ice
  • Snow or sleet
  • Falling objects
  • Explosions
  • Riot or civil commotion
  • Vehicles and aircraft
  • Vandalism and malicious mischief
  • PODS negligent acts
  • Burglary (while in PODS care)
  • Collapse of the Storage Center
  • Certified acts of terrorism
  • Collision
  • Upset or overturning of the container

Which Types of Property are not covered?*

deliveryPODS will not be responsible for certain items stored by you in the container to include money, jewelry, furs, firearms, computer software or programs, credit cards, and certain other invaluable and irreplaceable items. Additionally, theft of your contents while the container is in your care including damage to your contents stored in the PODS container caused by improper packing, normal shifting or your willful or intentional acts are not covered by the Contents Protection Option

How Are Losses Settled?

In the event of loss or damage to your personal items or our container, report your claim by calling our toll free number at (866) 351-3724. Your claim will be assigned to an outside claims adjuster for appropriate handling. Among other duties, you will need to create an inventory of lost or damaged goods. Photographs serve as excellent proof of damage. Please do not dispose of damaged goods until the claims adjuster has inspected them. All claims must be reported upon discovery of damage.
