There is more than meets the eye with PODS® containers. PODS of Houston’s dedicated employees continue to work tirelessly to ensure recovery efforts are streamlined and containers are dispatched when and where needed – bringing in more than 500 additional containers from Virginia, Maryland, Illinois, Utah, Arizona, Iowa, New Jersey, and other areas of Texas.

Helping to rebuild communities is not a new philosophy to the company, based in Clearwater, Florida, and its independently-owned and operated franchises. Invented by a former firefighter, the portable on demand storage containers have been placed to assist emergency personnel in numerous situations, including the Iowa Midwest flooding, and during Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, and wildfires in Malibu, California.

With three state-of-the-art Storage Centers in greater Houston, the local PODS franchise in Houston has dispatched more than 700 PODS containers after the storms to assist customers and disaster personnel, adding four drivers from out of town, and three additional delivery trucks.

PODS, its franchises and their employees are committed to helping the community, especially during times of disaster and recovery.

PODS is a positive reinforcing presence in the community and has become an accepted and respected member of disaster relief efforts; recognized by local authorities as a valuable partner.

PODS containers are constructed of a steel frame with specially-designed aluminum skin panels and have a load capacity of more than three tons. PODS containers are available in three sizes: approximately 7-by-7-by-8 feet, 8-by-8-by-12 feet and 8-by-8-by-16 feet. Our 12-foot and 16-foot containers have been tested to withstand winds of more than 110-mph when partially filled.

PODS of Houston Statements

“All of our Houston area market was affected by Hurricane Ike,” said Jay Williams, general manager of PODS of Houston. “Coastal areas such as Galveston and communities on Galveston Bay sustained flooding in addition to the wind damage. The Bolivar peninsula in particular was devastated. Outside of our own territory there were also major impacts in Beaumont and the surrounding areas of Orange and Port Arthur, prompting a huge response from our affiliate PODS franchises with resources for containers drawn from around the country.”

“We employ many native Houstonians at our PODS franchises in Houston,” Williams said. “Over the past few weeks, PODS has become not only a business to support the community, but an essential component of the recovery and rebuilding process to many of those affected by Hurricane Ike. Helping customers in need and seeing their gratitude is extremely rewarding for all of our employees, who have deep roots throughout the Houston and Galveston areas.”

“Our personnel and management interact with customers and understand what their needs are at this time,” Williams said. “The first step in rebuilding involves clearing out debris, so in many ways, PODS is a spear-tip in paving the way to rebuilding homes, communities and lives.”
